Matchday Week 30 - 12/04/25

As we approached the Easter half-term break, only two of our sides were in action. Many of the players from all ages were off jet-setting on their holibobs. For the U10 and U11 'Fire' teams, it was great to still get a game in.

Our U10's travelled to face Hemel Aces Leopards. With a much depleted squad, it was great that Betty, Avneet and Edith could play for the team and ensure that everyone got a game as the visitors only had the seven players available.

It was a great game and lots of brilliant football and enthusiasm from both teams, as they played with a smile in the sunshine. The coaches and parents fully enjoying the morning as well. As far as coaching goes, Kayleigh, Jess and Kerry just allowed the girls to play, communicate with each other and enjoy themselves. That was clearly evident as Avneet opened the scoring with an amazing goal. Both Dotty and Betty added to the scoreline as Aces also registered  an effort on the scoresheet.

Alaina had been excellent in goal again, as she continues to deputise for Ruby, and had the opportunity to play out on pitch as well, with some great chances and nearly scoring herself.

LGDA did manage to get one final goal, as Betty turned and passed the ball down the line to Ruby, who then cut inside and drilled a low shot into the goal.

A great game and well done to Alaina for collecting the Player of the Match award for all her hard work and improvement every single week. Including stepping up to play in goal and showing so much bravery and confidence to do so.

Our U11 'Fire' were also on their travels, and made the relatively long journey to play Hitchin Belles U11 Whites.  Coach Martin and Joe's team have enjoyed a really competitive season with some tough matches and a lot of learning and development as they look to progress to 9v9 football next season.

LGDA were on target early in the game but were pegged back by Hitchin and caught out twice.

Child friendly football is excellent for learning and development and the young 'Fire' team are understanding more and more about consistency and remaining focused. They got back into the game shortly after the second half started and once again realised how they need to keep progressing. Despite conceding another two goals, they rallied again. Scoring a third and then creating so many chances that they just failed to convert.

But this squad will continue to learn, understand the game an focus on keeping their levels high and concentrating throughout the match. At young ages, it is a lot to take in but they are a determined bunch.

Simi, Louiza and Aoife were on target for the girls, and the ever-consistent Josie was voted as the Player of the Match as she once again showed how well she reads the game and works hard for her team.

Matchday Week 29 - 05/04/25

Our three child friendly teams were in League and Cup action at the weekend, with the U13's having finished their league season and the U14's waiting until the start of May before they play again.

The U10 'Fire' hosted Hitchin Belles in the League Cup at Sun Sports. Everyone was looking forward to a tough but exciting cup match and they were certainly entertained. Despite a slow start, LGDA grew into the game after an early chance for Hitchin. It was the away team that took the lead but LGDA levelled after Dotty received a great pass from Alaina and struck a fierce shot into the top corner.

The game remained level with both Hitchin and LGDA determined to get the winner in normal time. There was so much energy, determination and passion put into the final quarter but still the deadlock could not be broken.

The match went into a period of extra time and despite some great chances created by the home team, they went so close but just couldn't convert them. So the match had to be decided by penalties. A thrilling and tense end to the game

Ruby found the net with her strike, but the Hitchin goalkeeper was on top form and saved the other spot kicks as Hitchin went into the next round by winning 1-4 on penalties. Despite the defeat, the LGDA girls heads were held high and there were plenty of smiles as they knew they had performed so well. Dotty received the Player of the Match award for her goal, performance and attitude throughout. Good luck to Hitchin for the rest of the competition.

Our U11 'Fire' were also at home and faced St Albans Youth at Sun Sports. In a game where the home team dominated possession and chances, they faced a strong and resiliant defence from St Albans. Playing off the break, St Albans managed to find the net twice, but these strikes were cancelled out by Georgia and Simi.

LGDA continued to press and play some fantastic football. After only a handful of matches, Edie has been growing in confidence and stature, and was passing the ball around well and identifying space to receive the ball and bring others into the game. Considering the short time that she has been playing, she fully deserved the Player of the Match award.

It was a positive and determined display from the home team despite missing Lacey and Josie. Great football, teamwork and effort. The match may have finished 'honours even' but the young Phoenix girls can carry the positives of their play into the final few weeks of the season.

The U11 'Flame' squad were once again in cup action as they travelled to Garston to face the Wildcats. After a strong start from the home team when Jess tipped a shot onto the crossbar, LGDA started to take control in the first half. With Millie and Aanya showing composure in defence, the team were assured moving through the thirds and were creating chances. Several players went close with chances and the away team took a deserved lead when Betty's shot was deflected away but only into the path of Sadie. The young midfielder struck a sweet left foot shot that flew into the net.

Despite the high possession stats for LGDA, the game remained 0-1 at half time. The players were urged to keep working and to try and get past the opposition via individual 1v1's. They soon got their reward when Edith ran wide and her cross-shot beat the goalkeeper at the near post.

Garston rallied and their keeper had been brilliant with some telling saves. The home team applied plenty of pressure but found LGDA in resiliant form. Jess and her defenders were determined to keep a clean sheet and they did just that.

A brilliant competitive match that was played in a fantastic spirit. LGDA progress into the semi finals of the competition but they hope that next season they will get the chance to play more exciting games against a good strong Garston Wildcats side.

For her composure, hard work, interceptions and excellent passing from the back, Aanya was awarded the Player of the Match by both her own coaches but also the opposition players. A fantastic display from the young lady, that we hope to see more of towards the end of the season and into next year.

Matchday Week 28 - 29/03/25

A sunny day greeted our LGDA teams on Saturday, and they all enjoyed their League and Cup football.

The U10 Fire had a short trip to face Borehamwood 2000 and took part in a really close competitive match. With only seven players for the fixture, they showed great stamina and fitness thanks to the work they have been doing in training. Three players also took turns in goal whilst Ruby still recovers from her broken finger. Layah, Dotty and Ella sharing the responsibility and proving that the team spirit is so high in the squad.

Hard work throughout and a lovely goal from Erin was just part of a great game with Borehamwood 2000 and we thank them for hosting. Eden was awarded the Player of the Match trophy after another consistent performance in defence.

Our U11 Fire played host to Ruislip Rangers in yet another close match. With the scoreline bouncing backwards and forwards between the two sides, Georgia, Aoife and Simi all scored for LGDA. Ruislip were sadly reduced to six players during the game, so showing true sportsmanship and respect, Louiza volunteered to play for Ruislip and make the sides even.

Not that it meant that Louiza would take it easy on her regular team mates. Far from it! But she had a great game for both teams and rightly picked up the Player of the Match award. It was honours even between the sides and another good competitive match.

Coaches Chris and Juan had to contend with an excitable bunch as the U11 Flames were also at home, as they played LGCE (Letchworth) in the League Junior Shield. This was a fantastic contest between two really good teams and they matched each other in all departments. Plenty of attacking football, chances created and great defensive work. Not to mention plenty of saves from both goalkeepers.

With the scores level at half time, you had a feeling that this cup match was going to go all the way and possibly just a goal that would separate them. Into the second half and Letchworth applied some pressure that led to a goal and put them in the lead. This seemed to ignite the Flames and the home team started to apply more and more pressure in front of a great supporting crowd from both teams.

Sometimes when games are tight, someone shines. Up stepped Betty. With a twisting run she made it into the box and slotted the ball past the opposition keeper to level the tie. Again, both teams battled and it was a great spectacle that was close to going to penalties. However, it was that young phoenix star again, who grabbed a second for LGDA. This time the ball was played through to Betty on the left and using plenty of time and composure she struck a sweet left foot shot into the far corner. It was harsh on a good solid Letchworth team, and they played so well. But it was LGDA that kept the rest of the match tight and they wrapped up the match. Congratulations to Elena for an excellent performance in defence, that earned her the Player of the Match award. Not only her reading of the game, but her battling, pressure, tackling and the occasional shot too. The U11 Flame progress into the next round and travel away to Garston next.

With promotion next season already secured, the U13 Fire were at home in their final match of the season against London City Strikers. It gave the coaching team a good opportunity to rotate some of the players and positions, with Taya captaining the team for the morning. The home team took the lead early on in the game after a lovely strike from Mills was parried by the Strikers keeper. Daisy was on hand however, to neatly tuck the ball home. In the right place at the right time, Daisy has been working hard on her positionining this season and got her reward. Another player who has been working hard this season is central midfielder Ams, and she was also rewarded for her hard work midway through the first half with a strike from distance that the keeper was unable to hold and Ams scored her first goal of the season to give LGDA a two goal cushion at half time.

With players being rotated during the first half, Deborah was also introduced at the break and along with her team mates, made sure that they would finish the season on a high. Having been awarded a free kick from about 22yards, Deborah stepped up and curled a shot into the far top corner. She then added a second a short time later, hitting a shot on the half volley that surprised the keeper and nestled into the net.

The match finished 4-0 to the home team against a good Strikers side, and once again played in a competitive and respectful manner. Congratulations to Ams for scoring her first goal of the season and putting in another solid performance in the centre of midfield, earning her the Player of the Match trophy in the final game of the season.

Matchday Week 27 - 22/03/25

With four of our five teams in action on Saturday, there was the usual mix of fun, hard work, enjoyment, team spirit, joy and then a little bit of heartbreak and disappointment thrown in. Whoever said "football is a funny old game" couldn't be closer to the truth.

Our U10 Fire girls played host to Welwyn United at Sun Sports. A new formation for the girls, new goalkeepers with Alaina & Layah covering for the injured Ruby. There were lots of passing, skills and great tackling on show from the start. The players really reacting well from all the training drills that they are given under the guidance of Coaches Kayleigh, Jess, Will and Kerry. These girls really are being spoilt at the moment..........

Amelia and Erin were both on target for LGDA in another entertaining match. Welwyn were also well organised, structured and played good football and were rewarded with goals of their own. It's great to see youngsters enjoying the sport and looking to continue well into the future. Playing outfield, Ruby received the Player of the Match award for all her tireless running, work rate and effort for the team.

It was cup action for both our U11 teams, as they entered into the league competition in their respective tournaments. For the 'Fire', it was a Home match against CCYFC in the League Trophy. With their opponents playing in a Division above, this was going to be a great and difficult test for the home team. However, it was a very close game from start to finish between the sides and very little to separate them. Despite falling behind early, LGDA rallied and created the majority of the chances. Luck was not on their side though, with the woodwork denying them and also being unable to convert their opportunities. Chorleywood continued to press and after scoring twice more, came out winners to progress to the next round. No cup run for LGDA Fire this season, but they continue to work hard in their league fixtures and prepare for competitive football next year with their heads held high. Esme collected the Player of the Match trophy for some fantastic saves and unfortunate to have conceded during the game.

For the U11 Fire, their original home fixture was fairly swapped to an away game and they travelled to play Bury Rangers in the League Shield. The girls were buzzing for the match after enjoyable training sessions during the week, and were on the front foot from the start, with great attacking play. After early pressure and shots on target, Sadie broke the deadlock with a fine strike from distance. Bury looked to respond but Millie, Jess and Elena were imperious at the back. It was Millie who then double the lead direct from a free kick to give LGDA a two goal cushion. Betty and Sadie then added two more before the break. Giving Jess some outfield time, Sadie donned the gloves in goal and Avneet powered through with a well taken finish to add to the tally. But the game belonged to Sadie, as she once again came out of goal and grabbed her hat-trick after a great assist from Eloise. Sadie's outstanding display earned her the Player of the Match award as well. Not a bad morning's work! It was a morning of great teamwork, solid defending and attacking play that reaped the benefits. The young Flames now progress to the next round.

In the HGFPL U13 Div4, the two top teams met at Sun Sports as LGDA hosted Hertford Town. A win for either team would guarantee the title, but a draw for LGDA would mean they could still secure first place with a win the following week. But this was all about the here and now.

Having lost to Hertford 1-0 in the away fixture, this was once again a tight and intense affair with both teams going close in the first half. With a large crowd supporting LGDA and Hertford (over 50 people cheering the teams on), the chances came and went for the teams, and this was heading for a stalement that you could argue was the fair result. Millie had been the busiest of the goalkeepers during the match and had made some fantastic saves, but this was a game that saw the best two set of defences living up to their reputations. Football is a cruel game though. With minutes remaining a high ball ricoched off two LGDA players and slowly crept into the net of the home team. Hertford had taken the lead and now it would take a huge effort for LGDA to break down a strong defence. The own goal proved to be the decider in the match and at the final whistle Hertford were confirmed as League Champions. The LGDA U13 girls could hold their heads high though. Securing promotion this season has been a fantastic achievement and they will 'go up' with Hertford and look forward to more exciting games next season. For her point blank saves during the game, Millie was awarded the Player of the Match accolade.

A match played with the utmost respect and competitiveness, but fair from start to finish. Congratulations to Hertford Town U13 Recife, deserved winners of the HGFPL U13 Division Four.

As for LGDA U13's.................. WE ARE GOING UP!!

Matchday Week 26 - 15/03/25

Everyone returned to match action again on Saturday, as our girls matches were played on a crisp cold sunny morning with the majority of teams respecting the FA's Silent Support weekend.

Our U10's continued their development in the HGFPL Yellow Division with a home match against a strong Borehamwood Youth U10 Lionesses. It was a great game between the two teams on the pitch, with Coaches Kayleigh and Jess describing it as "the best team performance of the season". The communication was really great, lots of lovely through balls, passes, shots and tackling from the start.

Amelia scored for LGDA in the final quarter to ensure that the match remained on a level footing.

A great team spirit shown by the players as well, after Ruby sustained an injury in goal and the girls stepped up to go between the sticks. A fractured middle finger has been confirmed for the U10's #1, so she'll not be in goal for a few weeks now.

Alaina was nominated as Player of the Match. Having played in many rotational positions on the pitch, she's found herself at home as a winger for now, and performed brilliantly.

An enjoyable match that was watched perfectly from the home supporters as they respected the FA's Silent Support weekend. Sadly it would seem that the Borehamwood spectators and (EastEnders wannabee) Coaches failed to get the memo...............

Coaches Martin and Joe took their U11 Fire team to Wheathampsted for their fixture and once again LGDA brought out one of their best performances of the season. Playing as a united team, they worked hard as a unit with great communication, accuracy in the passing and defending solidly. Getting back to training on grass last week clearly helped with decision making and vision.

Shooting practice had also reaped the rewards with Aoife scoring twice during the game. on her first game back from injury, Georgia got back onto the scoresheet and as you would normally expect, Louiza grabbed another.

Captained by Chloe, the girls enjoyed their morning of football and Eve was awarded the Player of the Match trophy for her positional play and excellent reading of the game.

It was a home match and a later kick off for the U11 Flame, as they hosted Tring Tornadoes Kestrels at Sun Sports. A dry but cold morning (despite the sunshine) saw a quick start from the visitors with a well taken free kick putting them in front. Flames quickly responded with a well taken corner from Betty to Sadie and then Lyla found the net.

Lyla then added a second to give her an impressive tally so far since joining up with the team. Edith then added another for LGDA after good work from Eloise. With Jess coming out on pitch for a cameo appearance, Edith took to the keeper's role like a duck to water.

A fantastic team performance all round with Edith shining brightly as the Player of the Match.

With only a few games left now, the U13's travelled to Stevenage Starlets to face a team and coaches that they have built up a really good positive and friendly relationship with.

The home team had an early chances that a combination of Mills, Taya and Charlotte managed to scramble off the line before the away team started to settle and gain control. Sadly we lost Daisy early on, due to blisters preventing her from playing.

Unfortunately for the Home team, they found Deborah in devastating form and she hit five goals in the opening 25 minutes to give LGDA a strong lead. This allowed the Coaches to rotate the players in a range of positions and in a rare opportunity up front, Taya calmly slotted the ball home after great work from Fatima.

The second half was a very even affair and Stevenage created some good opportunities and tested Millie in goal with a couple of long range shots. LGDA were also building up momentum and creating chances but the Stevenage defence were holding up well. However, a nice run and left foot shot from Mills found the bottom corner before the young midfielder came off with an injury.

There was delight for one young lady though, as Aimee had been pushed forward during the game and whilst following up an attack on the right hand side, she struck a perfect shot into the back of the net for her first goal for the club. A brilliant way to end another enjoyable game. The scorline may have finished 0-8 to LGDA, but the level of friendship & respect is something a lot of teams could learn from.

Well done to Aimee and Deborah, who rightly shared the Player of the Match accolade.

The U14's played a home friendly match against mid-table division three side Hitchin Belles. It was a good test and workout for the home team, facing a side a division above who they hope to be facing regularly next season. Despite having the lions share of possession and playing good football, LGDA found themselves a little hesitant in front of goal for a change, but this is why they continue to play whilst waiting for their final league game in May.

Hitchin scored twice in the game with Leira pulling one back for LGDA. Special mentions for their performances went to D'Arcey for her determination at right-back, and Millie playing on the left side of midfield for the first time. Great learning experiences for both players and great for their development.

Player of the Match went to the 'Skipper'. With Ava celebrating with another solid and consistent performance.

Matchday Week 25 - 08/03/25

It seemed like a quiet day at the office for the LGDA teams, with only three of five taking part in their football. But there were some cracking matches all the same.........

Before their games, all three teams  joined their opponents in a minute's applause to pay respect to Poppy Atkinson, who had tragically lost her life earlier in the week.

Both our U10 Fire and U11 Flame were playing away at Harpenden in the morning. So a nice little local trip awaited the players, Coaches and parents.

The U10's faced the 'Adders' and put in a solid performance. It was a battle for the girls but they never stopped working hard. The home team had the better of the early exchanges before LGDA rallied before Ella scored for the away team with an assist from Amelia. After some great battling, determination and tenacity, Amelia also scored for LGDA. Dotty added another goal from the penalty spot and the Adders were equal to the task throughout.

Great teamwork from the U10's Fire squad with Ruby once again making some great saves in goal.  Amelia collected the Player of the Match award for another intelligent and hard working performance.

The U11 Flame faced the Swifts and on a sunny clear day, the first half was a display of strong defences for both teams, with plenty of midfield action and a few goal attempts. Jess make some excellent saves for LGDA and the honours were all even at the half-time break.

Coach Chris made some changes during the interval and the girls played some cracking football and created more chances but again, both defences were enjoying their day. Harpenden made the first breakthrough in the game before Sadie then scored for LGDA. More positive play saw an excellent dribbling run from Edith, but she was thwarted at the last moment.

It was a hard-fought game and both teams came out of it with a lot of credit and the knowledge they had all worked hard. Millie was voted as Player of the Match for another impressive display.

The U13's were at home to Aylesbury Utd Ladies and knew that this would be a tough match. The teams played out a narrow win for LGDA in February and this promised to be just as close.

With the game played in a fantastic spirit that epitomised youth football in a competitive but respectful way, Deborah gave the home team a lead in the 12th minute with a nicely directed and composed finish. Aylesbury rallied and were putting pressure on the home defence, but being led by Laila, Taya and Aimee, there was little opportunity to grab an equaliser.

The home team came close to extending the lead through Daisy. Her clever footwork on the turn sent a low shot heading towards goal, but the Aylesbury keeper pulled off a fantastic save that had all coaches and supporters applauding.

It would be the away teams #1 who would continue to be the nemesis for the LGDA players. Save after save followed and some brilliantly brave blocks thwarted the girls in Yellow.

Aylebury then began to apply pressure again in the closing stages, but with Millie in goal, the defence remaining steadfast, and an amazing second half performance from Mills, it would once again be LGDA that would triumph win another 1-0 victory.

A great team performance, a battle, and an enjoyable game that was played in the way it should be. Full of respect and enjoyment.

Congratulations to Laila, who thoroughly deserved the Player of the Match award after a superb performance from the moment the match kicked off.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 24 - 01/03/25

A morning of bright sunshine was a warm welcome for all our teams & players on Saturday, as they took to the field for their respective morning and afternoon fixtures.

Evergreen U10's made the short journey to Sun Sports, to face our LGDA U10 'Fire'. It was a great performance from the home team with a display full of accurate passing, communication, determination and tenacity from every single player.

With Aria unavailable for the fixture, Coach Jess decided to have a different Captain for each quarter. Amelia, Eden, Ella and Ruby would all take turns in wearing the armband and they all led their team superbly. Amelia continues to impress with her vision and passing ability and she also weighed in with two goals during the match. Joining her on the scoresheet was Ella and Erin with well taken finishes.

It was another complete performance in the HGFPL Yellow Division and Erin's continued progress and hard work earned her the Player of the Match award.

An injury hit U11 'Fire' squad made their way to Ware, to face a tough game against a very good Hertford Town side. With a few players rotating to unfamiliar positions on the pitch for the game, they all battled brilliantly and their positive attitudes throughout were a credit to the club. Playing some nice football in spells and creating plenty of chances, they proved that they are able to compete with all teams equally.

Returning to the line up after missing last week, Chloe put in a really strong performance and was awarded the Player of the Match trophy.

Our U11 'Flame' played host to Bury Rangers Jaguars as the frost was melting due to the bright sunshine. Playing with freedom and high tempo from the beginning of the match, they set about the task of pressurising the opposition and were creating chances early on. Lyla broke the deadlock for LGDA with a close range finish before Betty added another with a 'remarkable strike'. Avneet was the next player to join her team mates in the scoring charts.

There were further goals for Lyla and Avneet, as they claimed a brace each. Betty bagged another two goals to complete her hat-trick but this was another team performance full of excellent passing through the lines and beginning from the back. To celebrate her brace and great solo performance, Lyla was voted as the Player of the Match and thoroughly deserved.

The U13's travelled to Ware Youth for an afternoon kick off, and certainly gave their opposition the 'Blues'. The girls practice of playing on Bournemouth beach in the summer meant that the sand on the pitch was not a distraction and they worked hard from the moment the referee started the game.

Anika opened the scoring with a looping header from a corner, and Deborah quickly added a second with another strike from Daisy's set-piece deliveries. Daisy then decided to get on the scoresheet with a fine lob, before a tidy finish from Deborah put the away side 0-4 up at half time.

Now going downhill in the second half, Deborah completed her hat-trick before Mills continued her fine scoring record against Ware this season with a hat-trick of her own.

More chances were created by LGDA but some good saves from the Ware keeper kept the score to a respectable one.

The match finished with an emphatic 0-8 victory for LGDA in a fixture that was brilliantly officiated by an experienced League appointed referee.

Both Mills & Taya were voted as Player's of the Match for excellent performances throughout the game, with both of the playing in various rotational positions during the match.

The U14's continued their fantastic form throughout the season with a 0-4 win at Bedwell. The visitors found it tough at times against a physical home team that were determined to defend and prevent LGDA from gaining a victory. But this would not deter the league leaders and a brace from Leira, plus goals from Issy and Arabella gave LGDA a deserved victory.

Excellent defending, organisation and work rate was the key to this fixture, playing their way through the opposition with more great passing and movement.

There are now only two league fixtures and a cup final left for the U14's this season, and they have been fantastic throughout. Roma picked up the Player of the Match award for all her running, skill and forward thinking.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 23 - 22/02/25

With the U13's having a 'free week' and the U14's informed that their match away to Bedwell was postponed due to pitch conditions, it was all down to our brilliant child friendly teams to fly the flag for LGDA on Saturday

Our U10 'Fire' began life in the 'Yellow' division with an away trip to Bury Rangers and played in a brilliant and entertaining match. Stepping up a division, they took their time to settle in and despite creating some chances, they were unable to convert them for a while. It was an end-to-end match with Ruby making some excellent saves for her team.

The girls continued to work hard and were rewarded with two goal from the 'dynamo' that is Dotty. With Ella skippering the team for the day, she was also leading by example out on the pitch.

It was great to have a strong opening game in the division and then girls went home with smiles and pride in their displays. Aria collected the Player of the Match trophy for the first time, after a really hard working performance.

The U11 'Fire' arranged a friendly fixture at home to Ruislip at Sun Sports. Despite a slow and tentative start to the game, the girls really grew into the match and raised the tempo in the second half. They were unfortunate to lose Lacey to a foot injury in the first half and with Georgia also struggling, they were down to the 'bare bones' with available players.

Despite this, there were some really strong performances and Esme was very assured in goal. Making some timely saves and also being very brave in coming for the ball. He kicking has really developed as well, and because of those attributes in the game, Esme was voted as the Player of the Match.

There were two goals for Louiza and also one for Edie, scoring her first ever goal for the club and hopefully one of many in the future.

The U11 'Flame' were on their travels once again, as they journeyed to Goff Oak. It was another accomplished performance from the young phoenix stars, as they looked for a fast start and to play at high tempo with chances being created. It was another game for a debut goal, as Lyla scored for the first time for her team in only her second game, which will give her a huge boost of confidence going forwards. Sophia captained the team for the match and played brilliantly in the centre of midfield.

Lyla was joined on the scoresheet by 'hat-trick hero' Edith, plus two goals for Sadie and one for Eloise.

A great display of skill, adaptability and teamwork. Avneet picked up the Player of the Match award for another dynamic performance to match that of the team.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 22 - 15/02/25

More pulsating games took place on Saturday for the LGDA girls. A complete 'mixed bag' of results as the teams played their last games before half-term. The U14's also received a 'Home Walk Over' in their fixture, so it was a weekend off for Jody, Juan and his squad (but they'd much rather be playing!!).

Our U10 'Fire' squad were the only team playing at Home, and entertained Knebworth Youth Lionesses. With all the hard work in training and taking the same mindset into every match, the girls quite literally on 'Fire' from the start.

Playing at a high tempo with great communication, work rate and passing, they played some fantastic football throughout the fixture and had Coach Jess beaming at the end. The squad has increased in size during the campaign as the girls prepare for next season and the season after (we love to plan ahead). So to have a great squad in place now, we can continue to their development as a group.

Ella led the way for the girls in this game, with five goals to her name by the end. Dotty continued her excellent recent form with four goals, and there were also individual strikes for Eden, Erin and Layah (our Captain for the day). With many great performances, the Player of the Match award had to go to Ella for her 'haul'. That now takes her to 22 goals from 17 games. A brilliant personal achievement.

This would prove to be LGDA's final game in the HGFPL U10 Red Division, as they have now progressed to the Yellow Division for possibly the remainder of the season

It was a difficult away day for the U11 Fire, as they travelled to play Whetstone Wanderers on a 'joyful' pitch with only a 7-player squad. Although this does mean that game time for the individuals is at it's maximum, so not all bad.

The 'Fire' worked hard throughout the game but as can happen in matches, they couldn't quite get their normal rhythm and flow into their play. Whetstone played some great football and the game was competitive from the start to finish. Josie put in an excellent performance with her reading of the game, tackling and passing. At the other end, Simi was on target for the girls and also has an impressive record of 14 goals in 12 games.

Hard work, lots of energy and plenty of game time. There are always positives!

Coach Chris and his U11 'Flame' team were also on their travels and faced a strong and physical Tring Tornadoes Kestrels U11 side. With the eight players at his disposal consisting of four players playing 'up' an age, you could be excused for thinking that U10's playing an older side may find it a little intimidating. But as with all our teams and age groups, we like to challenge our players and see how they rise to it. These youngsters are no exception and they just go out and play football.

Straight out of the blocks from the start, they set to task in the rain and took an early lead in the 3rd minute through 'Player of the Match' Sophia. 'Skipper for the day' Sadie then added a goal to her season's tally and Jess was once again keeping out any Tring offensives.

Turning up the heat and keeping the performance levels high, Sadie then completed her own double with another goal and this was matched by both Edith and Betty. The goal of the game then came from Avneet, as she struck a sweet volley from outside the area which blasted into the top right hand corner.

Another great performance from the Flame squad and a standout performance from Sophia.

The U13’s travelled to Ware for a 'Top of the Table' clash against Hertford Town Recife. Both teams have been performing brilliantly in the League this season and this promised to be an entertaining affair.

The game certainly lived up to expectations with LGDA creating an early chance for Deborah but the young striker was unlucky not to find the net. Both teams were attacking but also defending superbly and the goalkeepers were always alert but rarely troubled. LGDA were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the first half for a handball that we have seen less given against us by other referees this season, but the official for this fixture was having a great game and there were certainly no protests from our end.

The game remained tight and even at half time and then with 18 minutes left on the clock, Hertford made the breakthrough. Two players were unchallenged and came away with the ball and after some neat footwork to open up a chance, their striker tucked the ball out of the reach of Millie in goal.

LGDA continued to press and work hard, but Recife were resilient and prevented a breakthrough.

In a game of statistics, Hertford are only the second team to prevent LGDA from scoring (so far) this season and they themselves failed to score more than one goal for only the second time in this campaign.

Mills was awarded the Player of the Match accolade, having worked tirelessly and covered so much ground on the pitch. Also covering three positions during the game. Starting as a right midfielder, then moving into the centre and also some time as a striker. An excellent performance!

For LGDA U13's, an amazing run in the league ended with our first defeat since the 14th September and the first goal conceded in over 300 minutes of football. So whilst a loss was disappointing, it's been a brilliant season for the girls with five games left to play.

Well done to Hertford Town Recife as well. Along with a couple of other teams in the division, it was a refreshing change to play a competitive fixture in a friendly respectful environment from Coaches, Players and Supporters.

If only all clubs could behave like that.................................

Matchday Week 21 - 08/02/25

With all five of our teams in action, this weekend provided nothing but entertainment, goals, more goals and SUPER GOALS………………….

The U10’s kicked off the entertainment with an away trip to Whetstone Wanderers on a pitch with a slope, plenty of slip hazards for the parents (as I am led to believe) and more mud than a hippo could possibly enjoy!!  But our girls just love playing football and they are not bothered about the cold, wet, rain or messy pitches. If fact, it adds to the fun.

It is fair to say that all games involving our teams are fun, that is how we approach them. This was no different. The U10’s simply enjoying themselves and working hard together. Some of them took turns in goal with Ruby missing for the day. Amelia starting in between the sticks and later being rewarded with a goal when out on the pitch. ‘Captain Dotty’ joined Amelia on the scoresheet and then it was the turn of ‘hat-trick hero’ Ella to steal the show in goalscoring skills. Layah was voted as the team’s PotM with an excellent all-round individual display. Many thanks to Whetstone for the fixture, the cleaning bill from the parents is in the post…………..

Both our U11’s were at home and the 'Flame' began by hosting Bury Rangers. Coach Chris’s team were quick out of the blocks and attacking from the start. Rotational substitutions kept the energy levels high and the players were encouraged to play with freedom and expression.

Bury were also playing some nice football and the game was full of energy from both sets of players. Jess was kept busy in goal for LGDA and worked hard to transition the ball from defence to attack. The girls getting their rewards for excellent play, with goals for Edith and Avneet, plus hat-tricks for Betty and Sadie, with the latter also picking up the PotM award for showing  leadership and an outstanding performance. A brilliant squad display all round, with high tempo and pressure throughout.

The U11 Fire then took to the field to face Hitchin Belles. This was a very well-matched game between two good experienced sides. Plenty of good encouraging moments from LGDA and some good goals scored as well. Player of the Match Aoife scored a brace for her team and just never gave up. So determined to do everything she can for her team, she has the heart and desire to match that determination and will to win.

Louiza kept up her consistency levels with yet another goal for the team, and you could never claim that the players and squad don’t give 100 percent.

Special mention also has to be given to Edie, who was making her debut for the U11 Fire. She’s been working so hard in training and loving being a part of the squad. We can already see that she’s going to be a brilliant addition to the squad in the future.

The U13’s were also at home, as they entertained Stevenage Starlets at Sun Sports. They had worked hard in the week with playing at a high tempo and they were the instructions from the coaches before the game. Press high, work hard, keep moving and play football.

Stevenage created some early chances in the game and proved to be an amazing team & coaches. This was a match played with the utmost respect and both clubs enjoyed the 70 minutes of football. This was a day where LGDA were absolutely clinical with their chances and despite the Starlets goalkeeper having a great game, there was little that she could do to stop a determined front line. Deborah scored four goals, Daisy added a hat-trick and there was a double for Mills.

However, the scoreline really didn’t reflect the performance from Starlets and they never stopped working hard. It was great to share many thoughts about the match between coaches and we look forward to forming a strong friendly relationship with Starlets in the future.

With the parents undecided about a player of the match because they felt this was a complete squad performance, the coaches were really impressed with Anika’s contribution throughout. So “El Capitan” took home the trophy after leading by example with her determination, communication and ability on the ball. Not to mention a couple of strikes from distance that deserved at least one goal……………

The final game of the morning belonged to the U14 Fire. Playing at home against CCYFC in the semi final of the League Senior Shield, there was obviously the opportunity to reach the club’s first ever competitive final. Whilst there may have been a few nerves before the game from players, coaches and parents, these were quickly calmed (slightly) as Arabella tucked away a chance in the opening 20 seconds of the game to put the home team 1-0 up.

Cup matches are never clear-cut though, and CCYFC were not going to back down easily. They wanted to reach the final just as much as our girls, and they created plenty of chances and problems for our back line and Ella in goal. But our girls were equally up for the challenge.

Both goalkeepers were confident and holding firm, and it was LGDA who continued to pile on the pressure in the second half. Their fitness and rotation of substitutes really helping when others may be tiring. None of the ‘Fire’ were slowing down and continued to press and show determination.

It began to feel like the tie would need to be settled with a moment of quality, and that was provided by ‘Livs’ in the LGDA midfield. With around five minutes to play, she intercepted the ball in the middle of the pitch and drove forwards with purpose. Jinking past two players, she continued into the opposition box. Then cutting inside the defender, she looked up and curled a superb shot into the far corner of the net that no goalkeeper was going to reach.

Cue mad celebrations from everyone!!  It was a goal that was worthy of winning any match.

Commiserations to CCYFC, who took part in a great competitive game.

So now the U14’s march on into the Senior Shield Final on May 10th. As a club, we couldn’t be any prouder!

Matchday Week 20 - 01/02/25

As we entered into the second month of the year already, all our fixtures went ahead. Our child friendly teams all had away games whilst the U13's and U14's played host at Sun Sports.

Hitchin Belles Youth was the venue for our U10's, as they took on the 'Red Belles'. After a quiet start in which Amelia had scored for LGDA, the game sprung to life for the away team. Coach Jess decribed this as a "great performance for the girls. They worked and battled hard in all four quarters".

Always a team game, but it was "Dotty's Day" as she bagged four goals and picked up the Player of the Match award.

Our U11 Fire had a long journey to play Hertford Town Brasilia. After a slow start in which Hertford scored twice, LGDA pulled in back with two goals themselves. Simi and Louiza evening out the scoreline. The away team were deservedly in the game and pushing for a winner but were caught on the break as Hertford once again took the lead. Our girls rallied once again and were awarded a penalty. Fair play to the Hertford goalkeeper who guessed correctly and saved the spot kick.

An entertaining game in which Lacey deservedly picked up the Player of the Match award for a brilliant performance.

The U11 "Flame" faced an away trip to play Ware Lions Stripes. With the game being played on a rather 'bouncy' astro turf pitch, both teams started strong. Attacking from the first whistle, Edith scored for Flames with a shot into the top corner. Jess was making some impressive saves in the LGDA goal, which earned her the Player of the Match award at the final whistle. Ware evened the game just before half time and then scored two quick goals at the start of the second. Coach Chris's team continued to play and work hard and pulled another back through Betty. However, the full time whistle ended the match and the girls went home with more game experience and plenty to learn from.

Ware Youth Blues were the U13 visitors to Sun Sports, as they took on our LGDA U13 FIre. The home team were looking to continue their fine run of results and determined to play decent football from the start. With the Ware goalkeeper making some important saves to keep the home team at bay, it took some time before Mills finally broke the deadlock with a fine angled drive into the far corner.

The away team continued to defend doggedly and break down the waves of attacking play from LGDA and the pressure finally paid off. Some hesitation in the Ware penalty area and a heavy touch from a defender played the ball into the path of the advancing Mills, and she blasted her second goal of the game into the top corner. A delightful strike that secured the three points for the home team.

It was a 'Top of the Table' clash in the U14 Division Four, as LGDA hosted St Albans Gladiators, with both teams challenging for top spot in the Division. It was a tense and nervous start for the Home team but once they soon settled into their stride, the nerves soon disappeared and they began to start playing their well-drilled attacking football. Playing on the front foot, they continued to put pressure on St Albans and finally got the breakthrough they deserved when Millie met a Megan corner at the back post and placed her shot into the net to put LGDA 1-0 up.

The U14 'Fire' squad were at their best and winning the physical and psychological battles on the pitch. Ella was rarely troubled in goal during the first half but needed to keep her focus throughout the game as the girls knew how good St Albans were. In defence, Ava, Megan and Ana were imperious throughout. Blocking challenges, making tackles and playing out to the midfield. This is exactly how the home team extended their lead. A perfect angled pass from Ana went right into the path of Leira. The midfield maestro then held off two challenges, skipped into the box and slotted the ball past the oncoming St Albans keeper.

The celebrations were thoroughly deserved and on hearing the final whistle with the score at 2-0, the players, parents and coaches were over the moon. LGDA now sit proudly at the top of the table and are really loving their season. They have come a long way and deserve the little successes on the pitch that their hard work has brought.

Huge congratulations to Ana for her Player of the Match award. An outstanding performance in defence and an assist to go with it.

Matchday Week 19 - 25/01/25

Only the one game suffered at the hands of Mother nature this weekend, as the U14's away match against Ickenham Youth was postponed due to pitch conditions.

The U10’s Fire had a local fixture, as they played away to Croxley Green Opals. In a close but entertaining match, the away team had the advantage of being able to call upon 'super-subs' Ella & Dotty, as both girls came off the bench to score for their team. It was all smiles in the sunshine and Erin was delighted to pick up the Player of the Match award after a brilliant energetic performance.

Our U11 Fire played host to St Albans City Wildcats at Sun Sports. Coach Martin described it as a "very enjoyable morning of football" where his team put in a "solid performance, in which they were fairly comfortable for the majority of the match". Then a fun and frantic final 10 minutes saw plenty of goals scored between the two teams. Louiza bagged a brace for the 'Fire' and Georgia added another for the teamm, and picked up the Player of the Match award in the process.

The U11 "Flame" were also at home, as they faced Chipperfield Corinthians. The match started evenly with both teams creating chances. Sadie broke the deadlock for the home team and that difference took the team into half time. LGDA then fired up the burners and increased the tempo of the game. Betty led the way with a brilliant hat-trick and this was followed up by goals from Edith and then Eloise, who scored her first goal for the club. Some great performances throughout, but it was the hat-trick hero who took home the Player of the Match award.

The U13's faced a tricky away match in Aylesbury against a very good organised opponent. Despite creating many great chances, they were being thwarted by a brilliant goalkeeping and defensive display from the home team. The deadlock was finally broken with a moment of magic from Daisy. Collecting a corener from Mills, she took a touch to control the ball and then send an angled strike into the top corner.

Mor chances were created in the second half but there was no way past a great goalkeeping performance from the Aylesbury #1. At the other end, our defence and Millie in goal had to be fully focused and alert as they prevented an onslaught towards the end.

The LGDA girls came away with a hard fought and well earned 1-0 victory and another three points. 'Hard work and well earned' would also describe the performance of Player of the Match, Amelie.

Matchday Week 18 - 18/01/25

It was finally a welcome return to action in the new year for all five of our teams. With goals galore, plenty of fantastic football and smiles from most, there was also the unwelcome element of football that sadly crept into one of the fixtures………

The U10’s Fire were the only team to be playing at home, as they entertained Potters Bar at Sun Sports. In chilly but perfect conditions, the young phoenix stars of the future produced some great football that they have been working hard on in training. Fluent passing, great movement and some tidy finishes, they were also grateful for the excellent saves from Ruby.

Dotty was dictating the play and making great recovery runs, and well supported by Eden and Alaina. Aria and Giulia were working hard with great strength and ability on the ball, bringing their team mates into play. The game was a close one and Potters Bar had some good strong and technical players, but goals from Erin (2), Amelia (2), Layah and Ella set the home team up for a happy weekend. ‘Giulia the Pocket Rocket’ was awarded the Player of the Match award for her determination, ability to break up play, win the ball, distribute it and work hard for her team. One of a whole squad of ‘team players’

Our U11 Fire were away to Ruislip Rangers, who are a very strong side and have given our Fire team some brilliant matches and areas to learn and develop. The girls were focused and ready from the start and Coach Martin described their performance as “fantastic”.

The ever-reliant Louiza captained the team for the day, and she led by example with her hard work and never-give-up approach to playing. There were two goals for ‘Player of the Match’ Aoife and another for Simi, who is regularly finding the net and on very good goalscoring form.

As they prepare to move up to competitive football at U12 level next season, the future is bright for these young players.

The U11 Flame had a pleasant drive around the M25 to Goffs Oak to contend with. This happy little bunch use that time to prepare themselves and get ready to go all guns blazing from the start, and they didn’t disappoint. Described as a “dominant performance”, they like to play at a high tempo and get forwards as quickly as possible. The Goffs keeper was working her socks of and playing brilliantly.

Regularly rotating the players and moving positions, the deadlock in the game was broken by Sadie. Millie then stepped up to add another with a great strike. Sadie then grabbed her second of the game before Betty joined them on the scoresheet and Avneet also bagged two goals. Not wanting to be left out, Edith also joined in on finding the net and bagged a second half hat-trick.

Another great performance, a joint Player of the Match award for Millie and Eloise, and a happy journey home.

The U13’s were looking forward to another competitive fixture away to Ware Youth U13 Clarets. A good side who are strong and hard working, they have already given the U13’s two very tough games at home earlier in the season. Despite the 13:45pm kick off, the temperature hadn’t risen much above, but it was to ‘heat up’ soon enough.

Both teams were playing good high press football and creating chances, with the away team almost grabbing an instant lead from kick off. With the LGDA defence working so well and well supported by their midfield, Ware were struggling to break through. Even when they did, they found Millie in superb form in goal and not letting anything past. It was LGDA who took control of the game, Deborah was twice played through and made no mistake in grabbing a quick brace. She then completed her hat-trick just before half-time as a scramble from a corner found its way into the Ware net.

Multiple changes saw an equally even second half with chances for both teams. The goalkeepers were performing well and Millie made an unbelievable ‘triple’ save to keep Ware at bay.

With the game getting more and more competitive as the minutes passed, the game took an ‘ugly’ turn with three minutes remaining. Two ‘off the ball’ incidents resulted in the referee ending the game with LGDA 0-3 up and taking the three points back home. It was an unnecessary end to a good contest which marred the result and an excellent performance from the away team. With it being impossible to single out any individuals under the circumstances, each and every LGDA player deserved the Player of the Match award and this went down as a ‘Team Result’ for the players, coaches and spectators to be proud of.

In the U14 Division 4, our LGDA U14 Fire travelled to Harpenden Colts, eager to get 2025 underway and keep their momentum going since before Christmas. They were given the perfect start in the first minute when Lilly collected the ball on the right side and from just inside the penalty area, she struck a perfect curling shot into the far corner. The early goal allowed her team to play with a smile, freedom of expression on the ball and plenty of composure.

The LGDA girls continued to play great football throughout the match and with some lovely goals to match the performance. Two goals apiece from Millie and Issy and a solo from Leira gave them a comfortable 6-0 victory.

A great team performance once again and the day belonged to the opening goalscorer. Having returned to training with determination and a smile on her face, she’s impressed the coaches with her hard work and attitude and deserved her start in the game. Picking up the Player of the Match award and well deserved.

Matchday Week 17 - 11/01/25

Frozen 2.jpg

If you thought one week of ice cold temperatures was enough, nearly the whole of HGFPL football was dealt another hammer blow as the minus temperatures continued. However, our plucky and brilliant U10's 'carried the flag' for LGDA and despite the freezing conditions they fulfilled their weekend fixture.

A very cold mid-morning fixture on a frozen 4g pitch in Harpenden to play the colts, but our U10's were not to be put off. They love their football and just want to play and learn. So they took part in a strong competitive fixture with a lot of hard work and no end of effort.

With the starting line up of Ruby, Layah, Giulia, Eden, Dotty, Akira and Amelia (c) and a strong bench consisting of Alaina, Erin & Ella, confidence was high and the girls were ready to go.

Plenty of running, passing, communication and enjoyment saw Amelia leading the way as the captain for the day and scoring for the young U10 Fire team. Ruby was also on top form in goal and making some great saves. This would result in her winning the player of the match award for the day.

A good run out for the girls, they were back playing and they are working hard in training. As with our older teams, there are exciting times ahead for this brilliant little group.

Matchday Week 16 - 04/01/25

It was the start of a new year, everyone was excited, everyone wanted to return to football for the weekend. But it all went a bit "Olaf"...................

Thanks, Mother Nature!!

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 15 - 14/12/24

After a complete 'wash out' last week due to the storms, LGDA returned to League and Cup action this week, with our child friendly teams finishing 2024 with their matches, and mixed results for the U13's and U14's in their respective Quarter Final matches..............

Our U10's enjoyed a 'local derby' at home, as they entertained Croxley Green. Continuing their excellent result in the previous game, the girls were showing off all the hard work that they have been putting in at training. Their passing, work rate and finishing is improving week in week out, and never forgetting their defensive duties either.

Leading the way with an excellent hat-trick was Amelia. Coming off the bench to work as a midfield maestro, she was pulling the strings with Dotty as her 'wing-man'. Dotty also got herself on the scoresheet during the game too. There were also doubles for Ella and Erin, as they continued their own fine form. All the players had a great morning and finished off 2024 in style, with Amelia awarded the Player of the Match award for her display and three goals.

The U11 'Flame' followed on from the U10's and the pitch must have had 'goals written all over it' as they played host to Bury Rangers Jaguars. WIth a full squad and their spirits high, they got off to a flyer. Almost straight out of the blocks, Betty gave the home side an early lead by winning posession and going on a dazzling run before scoring. The young Phoenix Flame then scored her second after great work by Sophia in midfield and then hard work from Avneet.

Avneet was then on the scoresheet herself, converting a chance after a great cross from Edith. More chances came for the home team and they were denied by some excellent saves from the Bury keeper. After a brief 'unscheduled' break in the first half, Edith saw all her early hard work pay off with a very quick hat-trick which was quickly followed by an unfortunate own goal from Bury.

WIth absolute fair play being utilised, Bury brought on two players as per the FA Powerplay ruling. With this now a 7v9 format, it was a great further challenge for Coach Chris's team.

Understandably there was a lot of pressure and chances for Bury, but Mille and Elena were steadfast in defence and Jess made some important saves as she was determined to keep a clean sheet.

More great team work from Eloise and Sadie then gave Betty the opportunity to get a much deserved hat-trick and she was more than happy to oblige. Sadie then converted an excellent spot-kick and finally rounded off the morning with her second of the game with another brilliant cross from Edith.

A lot of good play, a great challenge to play a lot of the game against nine players, and a brilliant way to look forward to their Christmas Party in the evening. As she continues her full recovery from injury, Eloise was voted as Player of the Match for a brilliant performance individually and part of a great little team.

The U11 'Fire' were once again on their travels and facing a goor Ruislip team. This was yet another competitive game between the teams and evenly balanced. Despite a slow start for the away team, they grew into the game but an early goal gave them an uphill task. The girls never give up and Simi had got LGDA back into the match in the second half. There was a lot of pressure applied from LGDA but not quite finding the finishing touches they needed. Conceding three more goals in the second half (with one being the final kick of the game), it ended with a result that was closer than the scoreline suggested but gave the Coaches and players plenty to take away and reset for 2025.

Never forgetting that this is one resilient group of girls, they will be bouncing into the New Year and working harded than ever. Louiza collected the Player of the Match award for her ability to play in rotational positions and never stop working hard for the team.

The U13's travelled to St Albans for the second consecutive match, as they faced Division Three side St Albans Central in the Quarter Final of the League Junior Cup. With the match postponed due to the storms last week, it was clear that the pitch was still suffering the effects with little to no line markings and no maintenance during the week. We all remember "jumpers for goalposts" and today they had "cones for 18-yard boxes". All that was missing were some bails of hay and a couple of Highland Cows...........

Difficult for both teams, they equally tried to play the football a QF deserved, and both carved out good chances in the first half. Deborah, Mills and Fatima all going close for LGDA. But it was the home team that took the lead in the first half as they reacted quicker to a loose ball in the box.

Once again an even second half seemed to fly by, with the away team feeling a little hard done by with some decisions going against them. Two more goals came the way of the home team, as LGDA missed the opportunity to block or prevent a couple of chances and they sadly bowed out of the competition. Another solid display saw Taya collect the Player of the Match award, but another mention has to go to both Mills and Ams for fantastic hard working displays.

But this has been a fantastic experience for the LGDA girls. With many playing up an age group and with some of them playing in their very first season, St Albans are the first team to prevent the U13's from scoring this season due to some brilliant brave goalkeeping. And on another day, on a football pitch (rather than a Primary School playing field) it could've been a different story.

Good luck to St Albans Central in the Semi Final and we have no doubt we'll meet again in the future.

Our U14's had a home tie in their League Cup Quarter Final and hosted Denham Ladies Youth on a great surface at Sun Sports. Knowing the importance for the girls at possibly making it to their first Semi Final in competitive football, there were some early nerves and it took a while for either team to break the deadlock. but it was Arabella who calmed the situation for the Coaches, Players and Parents.

With the scoreline remaining 1-0 at the break, it was time for the Coaches to discuss the high line and offside trap being set by Denham. The challenge for the U14's was to play through that and find the spaces with late runs.

The talk at the break worked perfectly and the girls set upon their task with four second half goals. Issy grabbing two, Megan converting from the spot and Arabella also adding her second to put the seal on a great victory. A tough decision to be made, but it was Issy who picked up the Player of the Match trophy.

As with some of the younger teams, this is a brilliant way for the U14's to finish 2024. Another win, a Cup Semi Final to come, and a brilliant league campaign so far...................

Matchday Week 13 - 30/11/24

It was an action packed morning for all the LGDA youth teams on Saturday. Plenty of smiles, excellent football and as for goals, well......................................

The U10's were the 'Big Hitters' and headline makers for the day, with an exceptional away day at Harpenden Colts against the "Adders". A wonderfully entertaining game and one where all the hard work in training showed just how much the players are learning and developing.

Aria scored her first goal for the club with a brilliant finish, and this setup the team for an away day to remember. Erin has been in fine form so far this season and today she grabbed four goals for the first time. Not wanting to feel left out, Ella weighed in with a hat-trick of her own, with Amelia scoring twice as well.. Dotty was the captain for the day and also got herself on the scoresheet. But the goalscorers would be the first to praise their team mates behind them. Ruby pulled off strong saves when called upon, and Eden was awarded the Player of the Match award for fantastic defensive work throughout.

A great day for the U10 Fire and their progress in the future is going to be very interesting indeed. There is still so much more to come from them.

The U11 'Flame' welcomed Ware Lions to Sun Sports. It was another even contest for the 'Flame', and they are really enjoying the tough tests that they are facing against strong opposition. This is where they learn so much more. Chance after chance were created by the Home team, but for once they weren't all hitting the back of the net.

The young Phoenix girls did eventually find the net through Avneet and also Player of the Match 'Betty'. The latter using her brilliant communication skills to support and rally her troops. Her pin point passing, strength and determination in the tackle and never-give-up attitude certainly went towards her receiving the matchday accolade. Ware certainly gave an identical performance and our girls will look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

The U11 'Fire' made the short trip to Evergreen for their HGFPL league match. As with the Flame, this was a close, evenly contested game that saw both teams creating chances and the play being strong throughout. There were really good spells during the match for the away team and young Josie once again showed her strength and brilliant reading of the game to earn herself the Player of the Match award. It was Simi who once again scored for the 'Fire'.

The U13's travelled to St Albans to face the Wildcats, looking to avenge the home defeat that they suffered earlier in the season. Playing on a 'heavy' pitch with quite a slope, it was going to be a tough game from the start. The away team were looking for a fast start and were creating plenty of chances, whilst the Wildcats also hit the post in the opening minutes of the game. The breakthrough eventually camr for LGDA via Deborah. A throw from Anika down the left saw the young striker use her strength and pace to burst away from the defence and slot the ball past the goalkeeper. Daisy then came off the bench and after good work from Mills, Daisy had two great chances that saw her hit the bar and then another that went narrowly wide.

The second half saw a lot of changes and more chances created. LGDA extended the lead when Daisy took a 'snap-shot' that caught the keeper out with her early and powerful strike. The ball nestling into the bottom corner. Wildcats rallied and pulled one back before Daisy turned provider to set Deborah clear to smash home a powerful third. Wildcats did manage to get one more consolation goal with the last kick of the game after two brilliant saves from Millie, but it was the away team who took all three points to move into 2nd place in the league. A great supportive, vocal and energetic performance from Bella saw her voted as the Player of the Match, but it was another fantastic team performance on the day, despite some players feeling under the weather. The unity and support for one another is amazing.

Our U14's were at home against Potters Bar Crusaders. Facing the same team for the second time within three weeks. With the previous match being a close affair for some time, the Phoenix girls were looking to ease any tension and get an early breakthrough.

Despite the physical presence from the Crusaders, the home team allowed their football to do the talking and produced some exciting play with great passing, overloads, supporting runs and plenty of attacking flair. Another squad with superb unity, they are all willing to support each other and work hard for the whole 70 minutes of their matches.

The day belonged to the home team with a 7-1 victory that had everyone talking about the quality of the strikes. Leading the way was Livs with two 'worldies' from distance. The young midfielder now adding goals to her game. Arabella also scored a brace and her determined display earned herself the Player of the Match award. There were also goals for Gracie, Millie and Leira, who is topping the LGDA goalscoring charts at the moment.

The U14's now sit top of Division Four and are playing with freedom and confidence. With a cup quarter final match also coming up, they are enjoying a season that has been full of fun and taking each game as it comes. Long may the enjoyment, performances and fun continue.........

Matchday Week 12 - 23/11/24

There was a 'rest week' for the U14's o Saturday, as they received a Home Walkover in the League Cup and progress to the Quarter Finals.  Whilst the weather was building up a storm, the remaining LGDA teams were creating some of their own................

Yet another away match for the U10 'Fire' team and the parents were busy clocking up their mileage through November!

This time they were off to play Arlesey Town Youth Lionesses. Without the services of Layah and Giulia at their disposal, the girls were hoping to get their match completed before the strong gales set in. Once again they pulled out another great performance full of football and hard work. Coaches Kayleigh and Jess delighted that all the coaching during the week is really paying off and the girls are learning all the time. Erin captained the team for the day and carried on her fine goalscoring form with a brace for the team. This was followed up with a goal from Amelia direct from a corner.

The young U10 Phoenix girls are really gelling as a group and the more enjoyment they get through training and playing on a Saturday is shining through. There were great performances throughout the squad, but Dotty was chosen as the Player of the Match with another all round game full of skill and energy. With a new month approaching, they may even get a fixture closer to home..........

The U11 'Flame' travelled to St Albans for their match away to Harvesters. This was an excellent and even contest throughout, with not a lot to separate the two teams. The 'Flame' probably had the better of the chances but were unable to convert them all, but that never gets them down. Jess impressed in goal today with very quick feet to nullify the Harvesters counter attacking play, but was unfortunate to concede just before half time after some great passing play from the home team.

LGDA rallied as they always do, with Millie and Avneet defending robustly. Elena and Eloise were providing the energy in defence and midfield, with Sadie and Betty showing their wide range of passing ability. And with Edith and Sophia causing plenty of problems in attack, you felt that an equaliser was on the cards.

To brave the temperatures, Sadie upgraded her kit selection to include a pair of 'magic gloves' and the reaction was almost immediate. With her second goal in as many games, she struck a powerful shot into the top corner to level the game.

This was to be the final goal in the fixture and it was a match that everyone could once again be proud of. For all her hard work, Sophia was voted as the Player of the Match for LGDA.

The U11 'Fire' put on a dominating display as they played host to St Albans City Youth Wildcats. A match full of energy, passing and communication, they were missing Louiza and added to the falling temperatures they also had some players feeling less than 100%. So their efforts stood out even more.

Aoife broke the deadlock in the game with a well taken goal, and a performance that earned her the Player of the Match award. Determination and an attitude to drive her team on, she never stopped working. Simi joined her team mate on the scoresheet with a deserved second goal. It was the reward that the U11 'Fire' had earned.

St Albans replied with a goal of their own late on in the game but this was a day for Fire to apply the heat on a cold day.

The U13's were hosting Ware Youth Clarets for the second consecutive week, this time in the League Junior Cup last 16. After a close game last week against the team currently second in Division Four, the girls knew that they would be facing another tough game. The home team got off to the best possible start after Amelie won the ball in midfield and played it to Daisy. The 'playmaker' then fed a delightful ball through for Deborah to run onto and open the scoring after 30 seconds of the game starting.

This was never going to be plain sailing through, and Ware showed their resilience to keep the score competitive and create a couple of chances. It's easy to see why they are near the top of the table with a good organised side. With the scoreline remaining at 1-0 at half time and way into the second half, a few player rotations for LGDA saw them extend the lead with 15 minutes to go. Some great play that started in defence and quick football to break forwards, Deborah again out paced the defence to strike home. Then within minutes she completed her hat-trick to take her tally to 9 goals in 5 games.

Ware were never going to give up and went close towards the end, forcing Millie into a brilliant fingertip save onto the post and was called into action again, a number of times before the final whistle.

But this was LGDA's day, a brilliant team performance once again from the entire squad saw them close the game out to win 3-0 and advance to the quarter finals. They will now face St Albans Central Girls on the 7th December.

So many great performances in this game, but Taya was awarded the Player of the Match award as part of a brilliant and strong defensive unit.

Matchday Week 11 - 16/11/24

For the second consecutive weekend, all five of our teams were in action on Saturday. A thrilling weekend for them all.........

With it feeling like such a long time since their last home fixture, the U10 'Fire' continued their 'Magical Mystery Tour' with a trip to Bury Rangers Youth. The squad were missing both Layah and Aria for the game, but this group just love their football and want to play with a smile and enjoy themselves. They are working hard all the time under Coaches Kayleigh & Jess and they really put in an impressive performance on the pitch, led by 'Captain for the day', Dotty. Erin was the talk of the town with a hat-trick during the game, with Ella carrying on her fine goalscoring form this season with another two strikes to add to her collection of seven goals in eight games. It was the hat-trick heroine who picked up the Player of the Match award.

The U11 'Flame' played host to Harpenden Colts Swifts at Sun Sports. Described as a 'cagey affair' in the opening stages, Colts took the lead in the game. LGDA rallied and the defence decided that it was time to 'shut up shop' and then start to press forwards. They began to make their football count and equalised through Avneet. Scoring a goal that came straight off the training pitch after a lot of work with coaches Chris and Amy. The scoreline was level at half time and the home team wanted to build on that. The second half was still very close and the 'Flame' were testing the paintwork on the Colts goal, with a number of chances pinging off the metalwork. â€‹

It seemed like it would take a moment of magic to change the game and that came from Sadie. In the closing stages of the game, she pulled out a fantastic 'trivela' and found the back of the net. A great performance from the home team and a mention for Eloise who played her first game since her return from injury. Avneet's training ground strike and performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

The U11 'Fire' were away to Whetstone Wanderers in another close game between two very good teams. However, it was a slow start from the away team that allowed the hosts to take an early lead. Minutes later, a superb corner from Simi took a deflection and found it's way into the net. This gave LGDA 'Fire' extra confidence and spirit and they took control for large parts of the game. Their pressure paid off with a fantastic marauding run from Aoife which ended with a great cross into the box that Louiza converted. There was time for more action in the game with chances for both and another goal for Wanderers. A lot of fun, a lot of energy and no lack of commitment, with Georgia being awarded with the LGDA Player of the Match Award.

It was only the third League game of the season for the U13 'Fire' as they hosted Ware Youth Clarets at Sun Sports. This was going to be a huge test for the home team against a strong team. Having soaked up some early pressure it was time for LGDA to start pushing forwards. A powerful run from Deborah saw her brought down in the box for a stonewall penalty. Daisy stepped up to convert the spot-kick in superb style to give the hosts the lead. More pressure was now being applied and Deborah added her name to the scoresheet with another driving run and finish into the bottom corner.

With changes a plenty in the game, the home team were creating more chances and this was now a tale of two very resolute defences and in form goalkeepers. For LGDA, it was a solid rearguard from Aimee, Taya, Autumn and Anika. If they were breached, then there was no beating Millie. At the other end, the Ware goalkeeper performed heroics to prevent Fatima extending the lead and kept her team in the game. It was an excellent end to end match but it was LGDA who would take all three points and move up to 4th in the League. With a number of really good performances again, it was Aimee who was voted as Player of the Match for an outstanding performance in defence.

The game finished on a sad but proud moment as we said 'farewell' to Lydia, as she played her final match for the team after three years, before her family move to South Africa. Lydia would share the PotM award on the day and her performances will be missed by us all.

The U14 'Fire' travelled to Potters Bar to face the Crusaders in their League Div 4 encounter. Despite early domination in which several good chances were created but not taken, LGDA fell behind in the game as a corner was deflected in, to put the home team into the lead. The equaliser came just before half-time after more pressure from the 'Fire' girls. Leira slid in to put the ball in the back of the net.

This gave the away side the confidence to push forwards in the second half and it was a strike from outside the box from Issy that broke the deadlock. It was a great strike that the young midfielder is more than capable of hitting. At the other end the team had to be thankful for Ella in goal, as she was called into action to make a couple of great saves, with one tip of the bar a particular highlight.

Leira then added her own second to extend the lead and score her 15th goal of the season. The result was wrapped up after Millie converted a corner from Megan at the back post. The win keeps the U14's at the top of Division 4 with 21 points from 8 games.

The Player of the Match award was given to Olivia for a dynamic performance in the centre of midfield. Covering a huge distance throughout the game, exploiting space, great ball distribution and excellent positioning and awareness throughout.

Matchday Week 10 - 09/11/24

It was a welcome return for all our teams on Saturday, as the November weather continues to be kind to us all. Long may that carry on, no-one likes postponements!!

It was also a day when all the teams observed a minutes silence to pay tribute to all our fallen heroes on a weekend of Remembrance.

Our U10 Fire squad travelled to play away at Borehamwood. It was their first game for nearly a month after no fixtures had been arranged for them. So it was inevitable that the players would be a bit 'rusty'. They enjoyed a good strong physical game and it is match like these that they will learn from. They put in an amazing performance and were awarded with a goal from Dotty and a Player of the Match award for the goalscorer. The girls enjoyed the game and will look forward to their next batch of fixtures.

The U11 'Flame' were also on their travels, with a trip to Chipperfield Corinthians. For the second week in a row, they only had a squad of seven players to choose from, but also welcomed back Jess in goal. Coach Chris was also assisted on the day by injury-hit Millie. Who is always willing to help and advise her team mates. Edith got her team off to a flyer after a great corner by Betty. Edith then added to her own tally after great work from Avneet and Sadie. It was then the turn for Sophia and Sadie to go close with a couple of chances, and Jess was making great saves at the back. It was a really entertaining game. Edith then completed a first half hat-trick with a great solo run from halfway. The second half saw the goals dry up for the visiting team, but there was still plenty of action for the parents to enjoy, with Avneet and Elena making greata tackles and clearances. An enjoyable game, a hat-trick for Edith and a PotM award for the returning goalkeeper. A good day at the office.

The U11 'Fire' made the most of a free weekend by setting up a home friendly match against Welwyn Diamonds from the Pink Division. It was going to be a tough game for the young Phoenix girls, which was then made a little harder as they lost Georgia and Josie at the last minute and despite injuring a finger at training, Esme wanted to play the fixture. As with all our teams, Coaches Martin and Joe wanted to take the opportunity to test challenge the girls and help them with matches against experienced teams. Sadly there were no goals for the home team despite creating chances, but an enjoyable morning of football and plenty for everyone to take away from the game. Esme deservedly received the PotM award for such bravery in goal despite her injury, and pulling off a string of fine saves.

The U13's made their second trip of the season to Borehamwood to face London City Strikers, this time in the U13 League Junior Cup. With a full squad of 14 players, it was always going to be an opportunity to rotate the squad. After soaking up some intense early pressure from LCS, the away team took the lead through Mills. Robbing the defender and then curling the ball past the keeper into the far corner. Strikers equalised after a run down the left and a decent finish before Mills once again put the girls in front with another great finish. This time she powered through, held off a couple of challenges and blasted the ball home. Another great strike.

Changes to personnel and a change in formation for the second half saw the away team now piling on the pressure and Deborah was starting to find her range. She then extended the lead with a fine bit of play involving Amelie & Anika with the latter playing the ball through for Deborah to score. Deborah then turned provider  as her cross was met on the turn by Fatima and she put the girls 4-1 up. Strikers continued to break on occasion but were stopped most of the time by a strong defence and Millie giving away no chances in goal. However, they did pull one back with a speculative shot that caught LGDA off guard. Not to be put off, Deborah then secured a 5-2 win by grabbing her second of the game to ensure the LGDA Fire finished second in their group. Mills, Laila and Millie were all voted equally as PotM, but this was another great squad performance.

It was a tough home encounter for the U14's on Saturday as they hosted Bedwell Rangers in the League. Bedwell were determined to come and stop LGDA's excellent run of form of late, and took an early lead to try and unsettle the home team. But this group of young ladies are made of stern stuff.

Ella continued her own recent good form with a couple of great saves to stop the lead being extended by the away team. The LGDA players were starting to find their feet in the game but went in at the break 0-1 down. The half time team talk seemed to galvanise the girls and they started to get into their stride. Chances started to be created and they finally got the equaliser through Millie. Another player who is on a decent run of form and scoring goals, she then added a second to put her team in front.

Once in front, they were not going to let this slip and the work throughout the team in defence, midfield and attack was outstanding. The comeback was complete and the U14's are sitting pretty at the top of Division four. A long way to go, but they are playing great football and learning to grind out and battle for a win as well. All fantastic learning for the players.

Matchday Week 9 - 02/11/24

Coming to the end of the school half-term week, the HGFPL decided to give all child friendly teams a week off, forcng teams to scramble for possible friendl matches. Only the U11 Flame were able to arrange a friendly match, whilst the U13's and U14's were able to enjoy a morning of football with their scheduled matches.

The U11 'Flame' played host to Ware Youth Clarets with only seven available players and missing Jess in goal. They love a challenge and were playing a strong experienced Ware team that play in the U11 Pink Division (regarded as the top division in this age group). Sadie donned the gloves in the first half and despite two quick early goals from Ware, she held fast and was supported by an excellent defensive display from Avneet, Elena and Millie. The girls were also rising to the physical challenges in the game, with Betty, Edith and Sophia working hard and never giving up. Another Ware scored before half time and Coach Chris was able to reshuffle the goalkeeper duties with Avneet going between the sticks. It was another great second half battle with excellent play from both teams. Ware scored a further three goals in the second half but this was a brilliant learning exercise for our newest LGDA team, and the players and Coach were so grateful to Ware for coming down to play the match.

With so many strong performances it was Elena who was voted as the LGDA Flame Player of the Match with a great defensive performance including some really good clearances and blocks during the whole game.

It was another home fixture in the League Junior Cup for the U13's, as they hosted Division Three's runaway leaders, Welwyn Pegasus. An opposition who are without doubt better suited in a higher division and their league form speaks for itself.

After losing Daisy to illness there was a change in formation for the home side and they welcomed back the 'skipper' Anika, as she made her first start since suffering her broken arm in the Summer. The LGDA girls started the game well and created some good chances with Deborah going close and causing a lot of problems in her lone role up front. Millie was rarely troubled in goal for the home team as the defence and midfield were working so hard to stop the Welwyn attacks. It was the away side that finally broke the deadlock however, pouncing on two moments of indecisiveness to take a 0-2 lead at half time. The scoreline hadn't really reflected the performance on the pitch and the girls were determined to get themselves back into the game. Another tactical switch halfway through the second half saw a lovely break forwards from Laila. Her pass to Mills was quickly played into Deborah's path and the striker beat the defenders to blast home a deserved goal. This raised the game for LGDA and despite a couple of breaks from Welwyn, it looked like the pressure would result in another home goal. However shortly before the end saw a counter attack down the Welwyn left and a little trickery led to a foul in the box and a penalty to the away team. Despite Millie going the right way, it was despatched well and the two goal cushion returned. A final throw of the dice to see if LGDA could salvage anything from the game saw the home team move Aimee up front and drop to two in defence. Despite the pressure Welwyn added a fourth with the last kick of the game.

It was a really good performance from the home team and they were happy to take the praise from many areas around the pitch. Taking a strong team to the closing stages of a game shows the development, resiliene and adaptability of the players and the squad. There are great times ahead for this group of young ladies.

With an energetic performance and some brilliantly timed tackles in the second half, returning captain Anika was voted as the Player of the Match.

Our U14's made the short trip to Hemel to play Aces Scorpions in the HGFPL League Division Four. Having already topped their group in the League Cup, it was a return to normal league action and another tough game against strong opposition on a big pitch at Longdean School.

Our U14's are growing in confidence all the time and their hard work and planning in training is producing results on the pitch. It was Megan who broke the deadlock within five minutes of the game starting, with a great strike. This certainly sparked an entertaining game with both teams attacking and defending really well. Roma went close for LGDA and the were blocks from Livs and the defence to stop Aces, as well as excellent brave goalkeeping from Ella. So the away team took a 0-1 lead at half time and were eager to get straight back into the action.

Aces were also looking to draw level early on, but the defensive LGDA unit were not prepared to be beaten. They were solid throughout. Then with LGDA on the break, Millie capitalised on great pressure to put the away team two-nil up. Now the away team were taking control of the game and there were further chances for Roma before she took control and added a third.

It was then the turn of Gracie and Millie (again) to get some shots away, and the build up play was really looking impressive. It was then time for Leira to get in on the act, with a dribbling run that caused problems in the defence. Arabella then capitalised on the pressure with the fourth goal to seal the victory!

Megan's opening goal and performance earned her the Player of the Match award and this was a victory that took the U14's to over 50 goals scored in League & Cup matches already this season, and ending the weekend at the top of Division Four. A four-nil win and another clean sheet for this ever improving squad.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 8 - 26/10/24

A morning off for the U10's, a postponed match and a friendly to replace it for the U11 Fire, an away trip for the U11 Flame and home fixtures for the U13's and U14's. All in a morning's football......

The U11 'Fire' travelled the short distance to face Hemel Aces, a team two divisions up from our girls and a good challenge for our young Phoenix players. It was a tough game as predicted but a really good learning experience against a well organised team. No goals from LGDA to report in this game, but plenty to take from the friendly match and well done to Eve, who was voted as the Player of the Match.

Our U11 'Flame' had a later kick off in Tring, as they faced the Tornadoes Kestrals. With only seven players on the day and missing regular goalkeeper "Jess", the girls rallied and played fantastic football once again. Really developing well and staying disciplined and resilient, counter attacking football was on the menu for Coach Chris's team. Betty led the scoring with a brace and there were solo goals for Sadie, Edith and 'Captain' Millie. Avneet was the Player of the Match for the 'Flame' with a strong performance along with her team mates.

The U13's hosted Division Three team Knebworth Youth Leopardesses in their second League Junior Cup fixture. In an end-to-end match, the home team had the pick of the chances and found a Knebworth keeper in fine form, preventing the home team from converting the many chances being created. Then on the odd occasion that the goalkeeper couldn't get to our efforts, Daisy found her way to goal blocked and rebounding off the post. The home team did eventually break the deadlock as their pressure paid off and Mills scored with a composed finish. An excellent team performance from LGDA was preventing a reply from the visitors, with Millie in fine form in goal and the defence being resolute and stopping any counter attack. It was then the turn for Deborah to take the game to Knebworth. She had been a handful all game and took her chances in the second half with two fine strikes. There was a late consolation for Knebworth but it was a thoroughly deserved win for the team in Yellow, and the second victory over a Division Three side in consecutive cup games. After her fine double in the game, Deborah was the debutant receiving the Player of the Match award.

It was a tough home fixture for the U14's as well, as they looked to continue their own impressive run in the U14 Senior League Shield, facing Welwyn Utd at Sun Sports. Gracie eased her team into the game with a neat finish after great build up play from Millie and Amelia. Leira was the next on the scoresheet and is also carrying on her own great goalscoring run, as she extended the lead with a beautiful finish to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at half time. Welwyn weren't a team to give up but they found Ella in brilliant form to deny any chances that came the way of the visitors and it was then Amelia who found the net from distance to put the game to bed. Another fine 3-0 victory for the LGDA U14's and they top their group with a 100% record in the cup so far. They now progress into the knockout stages of the competition and await to find out who their opponents will be. Congratulations to Ella who certainly deserved the Player of the Match award , along with a nice little clean sheet as well.

Matchday Week 7 - 19/10/24

Sadly the heavy downpours on Friday evening and Saturday morning caused three matches at Sun Sports to be postponed. That left the remaining scheduled fixture for the U14's being the only game played for LGDA.

It was a short away day for our U14's, as they travelled to Berkhamsted to face the Raiders U14 'Blue' in the latest League Senior Shield Group Stage fixture. Playing in front of the cameras for the first time this season, it was a slow but steady start for the away team as they looked to continue their form from last week. The deadlock took a while but it was finally broken by Leira, continuing her own goalscoring run after a hat-trick last week.

The score remained at 0-1 to LGDA at the break, but after the half time oranges and a few alterations in the line-up and formation by Coach Juan, the brakes came off and the match sprung to life. The Phoenix girls started to dominate the game with their movement, excellent passing, interchanging positions and ball work and their superior fitness levels.

Issy, Millie and Arabella bagged a goal apiece during the second 35 minutes, but it was Leira again who stole the show with a second half hat-trick which took her to four in this fixture and an impressive 12 goals in only 7 games. Raiders replied with a consolation goal in the second half, but it was the visitors taking all the points in an emphatic 1-7 victory!

Whilst it's easy to marvel at the goalscoring exploits so far this season for the girls, you cannot fail to appreciate the hard work, determination and unity that Ava, Megan and Ana are showing in defence. And with Ava captaining the side, her superb individual performance during the match earned her the Player of the Match award.

Another excellent performance and it's great to see this squad gelling and enjoying their football. With more tough league matches coming up in the coming weeks, they will be looking to continue this strong run towards the end of the year.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 6 - 12/10/24

It was a return to action for all five LGDA teams, as they competed in their respective HGFPL League and Cup competitions on Saturday. As a club who are fully focused on player and team development, over results (especially in Child Friendly football), this was a very good weekend indeed!

It was a short trip for the U10 'Flame', as they travelled to Berkhamsted to play the Raiders 'Greens'. It was a terrific performance by the away team with lots of possession and passages of play. Hard work, determination and creating lots of chances. Unfortunately there were no goals to report for the girls in Yellow, but it was not from a lack of effort or ability, just 'one of those days'. A special mention to Dotty, who was voted as the opposition Player of the Match, and also to Alaina who has returned from injury and took part in her first match of the season. An enthusiastic and determined performance that earned her the LGDA U10 Player of the Match award.

Stoke Mandeville FC was the destination for the U11 'Fire' on Saturday. The coaches took their players on an away day and a cracking match saw an evenly contested game between two good teams who are playing great football. Louiza was on target for the away team, and there was a stunning strike from Aoife that Coach Martin has already described as the "early contender for goal of the season". So the girls  definitely have a challenge for that title now (no.............. there will not be a trophy for it!!  Lol.).

With a brilliant team performance throughout, the H&L Construction Solutions Ltd Player of the Match award was dedicated to the whole team.

Harpenden Colts 'Swifts' were the hosts for our U11 'Flame' team. Despite only being formed in the summer, coach Chris described this performance by his young Phoenix stars as "the best footballing performance I have had the pleasure of coaching", with 'Total Football' being played by his team.

Edith was the hat-trick hero for the 'Flame' and Sadie also chipped in with a brace during the game.

The togetherness and bond that this young team are forming is fantastic to watch and they all look after each other. Millie picked up the Player of the Match award for another consistent and brilliant performance, and special mention has to go to Sophia who works tirelessly for the team and today showed all the best attributes of being a team player and working hard for her coach and her friends.

There was a long trek around the M25 for the U13 'Fire' squad, as they made their way to Broxbourne for their first taste of Cup football in the League Junior Cup. A tough match against an opponent in the Division above and flying high at the top, and a team that the LGDA girls had not yet managed to defeat over recent seasons.

A close encounter against a very good team meant that the LGDA defence had to be alert to the quick runs, clever passes and long throws that they faced. It is a great learning curve to be playing against good players and the girls were rising to the challenge. Working tirelessly to stop Broxbourne, the girls were determined throughout, and Millie was making some great saves. Despite falling behind in the 12th minute, the players rallied after half-time and started to add pressure of their own, forcing the home team back and reducing them to a few limited half chances. The pressure finally paid off as Bella played a great pass to Fatima, who took a couple of touches before smashing the ball home with great power. This galvanised the U13's and with corner after corner and added pressure, Fatima almost won the game in normal time with another strike that squirmed under the goalkeeper, but who then managed to just about prevent the ball from completely going over the line. Sadly, no goal-line technology is available at grassroots level, or there could've been a hefty debate....

The game was level after 70 minutes and was decided by a penalty shootout. Fatima and Taya cancelled out the Broxbourne spot-kicks before a number of chances were saved by both goalkeepers, with Millie once again proving to be considered one of the best U13 goalkeepers around, with a stunning one-handed save that was destined for the top corner.

It was then up to the LGDA Captain to take the final kick for the Yellows, and give them the opportunity to leave with three points in the League based Cup structure. Mills made no mistake from the spot and the celebrations were thoroughly deserved after an excellent match between both sides.

A difficult decision on the Player of the Match was finally awarded to Taya, who was phenomenal in defence along with her team mates.

The U14 'Fire' returned to League action at home on Saturday, playing host to Harpenden Colts Gazelles at Sun Sports in Watford. It was yet another dazzling performance by this ever growing and developing team. Hard work, fitness, great passing and clever finishing was the order of the day for the home team, and despite conceding a goal on the day, there was a brilliant hat-trick from Leira. This was followed up by a penalty from Megan, yet another goal for Arabella with a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper to continue her excellent goalscoring run, and a well taken effort by Issy.

The U14's are simply enjoying their football, learning along the way and as with all our teams at the club, showing that the development of all players really does produce results. It's always been a long term project at the club to produce great teams as well as great individuals. The unity in our oldest team really does set a brilliant example for everyone.

Leira celebrated her hat-trick with the Player of the Match award and would be the first to say that it is a team effort all round.

How proud we are of ALL of them.

#learngrowdevelopachieve

Matchday Week 5 - 05/10/24

Only three of our five teams were in action this weekend, with two child friendly fixtures at home and our U14's starting their cup run. The weather was fantastic for football once again, as we entered into October.

The U10 'Fire' squad assembled for their 7v7 fixture at home to Hitchin Belles Youth Reds. With Dotty captaining the team and leading by example with an energetic start, the young Phoenix stars were applying the pressure on their opponents and passing with pace and accuracy. With Coach Kayleigh rotating positions for player development, we saw fantastic early defensive work from Erin. Layah was leading the way vocally with brilliant communication and instructions, and some finely timed interceptions to turn over play. It was Layah's quick thinking from a throw-in that set Amelia's on her way towards goal. Amelia then made no mistake with a powerful fiercely struck shot that the keeper had no chance with. The home team were then awarded a penalty for handball and Layah stepped up to blast the spot kick into the back of the net. Two brilliant goals to compliment the workload and performance.

The girls continued to improve throughout the game with their passing ability, determination in defence and communication. Giulia had entered the field and was directing the play with encouragement and instructions. As well as her determination to win the ball and play forwards. It was then Giulia's turn to add to the goalscoring in some style. As a corner was cleared, she found herself on the edge of the area and hit a side footed volley that never touched the ground until it nestled into the far corner of the goal. With Ruby making some cracking saves in goal and Eden marshalliing the defensive area with Akira, Ella decided it was time to continue her goalscoring form with another finish to add to her tally this season so far. Hitchen were rewarded for their hard work with a well-taken goal and it was then left to Amelia to add to her own scoring run, by jinking through a couple of players before calmly slotting home. A brilliant performance by the LGDA players. Giulia's wonder volley and excellent performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

The U11 'Flame' team played host to Berkhamsted Raiders Youth U11 Whites at Sun Sports, and this proved to be a very even contest throughout. The home team were creating chance after chance but were being denied by a solid Berko defence and brilliant goalkeeping from the visiting goalkeeper. Whilst Berko would also find Jess in fine form in goal, and being alert from the start. Making sure that she was ready to claim any through balls and make clearances when required. The movement and football from the home team was a delight to watch. The link up play between Betty, Sadie, Edith, Sophia and Millie was a joy to watch, with the latter also making brilliant recovery runs and interceptions to help out Elena and Avneet in the defensive areas. Lyla was also making her debut for the 'Flame' and was causing a lot of problems for Berko with her hard work, endless running and constant communication and demands for the ball.

With Coach Chris continuing his encouragement from the side and guiding his players, it was pleasing to see all their pressure finally paying off. From a goalmouth scramble after a corner, Millie was at the far post and her effort was too much for the Berko goalkeeper to handle and despite her best efforts the ball crossed the line. The skipper's first goal for the team in the League and she was over the moon. The scoreline was then doubled shortly after from more excellent play down the left. Sophia then received the ball, cut inside and placed a left-foot shot into the goal.

Berko then halved the deficit and applied pressure onto the LGDA defence towards the end of the match and with great play from both teams, the referee signalled the end of the game. A difficult call for the LGDA Player of the Match, but Edith received the award for all her hard work and determination that so nearly paid off with a goal of her own.

The U14 'Fire' made their second trip to Stevenage to face the U14 Starlets Gold team, in as little as a few weeks. This time however it was the start of the League Senior Shield Group C cup format. With almost a full squad to choose from, Coches Jody and Juan were looking forward to the game and hoping to return to winning ways, plus getting the team off to a good start in the competition.

Any early nerves were soon to be quashed as Gracie gave the visitors the lead with a great goal. The U14's are flying high at the moment and continue to stick to playing great football with passing accuracy, encouragement and a desire to work hard as a team until the end of the game. It was a day for the players to share around the goals, with Gracie adding another to grab a brace. This was matched by Arabella. Roma continued her fine form with another goal in the game, with Player of the Match Amelia also scoring. Her performance from the centre of midfield was described as "dominating" as she had a hand in creating some of the other goals and hers was a great long distance strike.

Not wanting to be left out, there was also a goal apiece for Leira and Millie after coming off the bench.

So the goals were shared out amongst the squad this weekend and Ella in goal made some fine stops as well. An 8-1 victory for the away team sets them off perfectly in the competition.

A good day all round!

Matchday Week 4 - 28/09/24

Once again four teams were in League action this weekend, and it was another friendly for the U13's. A matchday full of close games, a few defeats but always plenty to be positive about, learn and improve on . And always ensuring the players enjoy their football.

A long distance away fixture was the order of the day for the U10 Fire team, as they travelled to play Little Canfield Stars HBO U10. It was an enjoyable game for all the spectators, with some great football being played by both teams. It was a closely competitive match and although there were no goals for the away team to celebrate this weekend, they had a great time and for one young lady especially, as Dotty received the Players of the Match award on her debut for the team.

The U11 'Fire' team faced London City Strikers 'Tempest' at Sun Sports in Watford in brilliant sunshine and on an excellent 'home' surface. Yet another team learning and playing fantastic football that has their coaches beaming. Simi was once again on target with a brace. There were also goals for team captain for the day Aoife, and also the Player of the Match for a superb performance, Lacey.

Our U11 'Flame' players had the delight of the early kick off at home to Hitchin Belles Youth U11 Whites. Having lost Eloise to injury last Sunday, the squad were down by one of their determined and developing stars, but this never fazed the girls as they continue to enjoy their debut season as a squad. This was a close match throughout and despite drawing a blank in terms of goals scored this week, there was a thoroughly deserving Player of the Match. Young Millie who joined at the start of the season, has been a revelation for the team and another accomplished performance saw her receive the match award.

It was a new challenge for the U13's at the weekend, as they made the short journey to Harpenden. Their challenge was to face U14 Div four team, Harpenden Colts U14 Gazelles. This was their first taste of an 11v11 format and playing against a team who are six divisions above our team. As they adjusted to a larger pitch and a new formation, the away team found themselves 2-0 down to a couple of 'avoidable' goals. However, they were not going to let themselves be overrun and began to settle into the game and create their own chances. A 70-minute match full of hard work, high intensity and no end of learning, our U13's halved the deficit in the second half with a great left-footed strike from Laila.

The Player of the Match award was unanimously given to Charlotte. One of three players who were actually playing two age groups 'up' on the day, she worked ever so hard and never stopped trying to attack and beat her defenders.

A fantastically enjoyable match against respectful and friendly opposition who will always be welcome to Sun Sports for a return friendly. It's always good to build new bridges and make new friends in the game.

Despite it being early in the season, there was a 'top of the table' clash for the U14's as they travelled to play St Albans City Youth Gladiators. With both teams having won their opening three matches, something had to give and this was a day when one or both teams would drop points.

In a competitive and physical fixture, it would be the home team that would take maximum points with a very closely fought 1-0 win.

It was a great game that provided the strongest test for both teams in the opening four weeks of the season, and will give the LGDA players and coaches plenty to learn from and look to improve in the future. We never forget that football is all about learning and with these very young players, they will continue to learn and develop their football abilities and minds. Congratulations to Ana who picked up the Player of the Match award for an excellent strong display in defence and showing bravery after a head injury towards the end of the game.

Matchday Week 3 - 21/09/24

Four teams competing in HGFPL League matches, one team playing a friendly fixture (yes, very early in the season....) and once again due to popular demand, there were goals, goals and even MORE goals.

It was an away trip over to St Albans for our young U10 'Fire' players. On a lovely sunny September morning, they took part in an excellent fixture against St Albans City Youth U10 Roman Girls. It was a close affair throughout and there were some great goals by both teams. Regular goalkeeper Ruby was unable to go betweeen the sticks for the fixture, due to bruised fingers playing some daft game involving a basket & ball. So Ruby played outfield for the game and Layah (twice), Amelia and Giulia donned the gloves and took turns in goal superbly.  WIth astute defending and great passing and quick attacking, the LGDA girls did themselves and their parents proud through goals from Ella (2), Amelia (2) and Erin. Ella picked up the Player of the Match award with two firmly struck shots with great power and accuracy.

The U11 'Fire' squad were also on their travels and took the long journey to play Hertford Town Girls FC U11 Brasilia. It was a tough task from the start, with only six players available to start the fixture, and with a seventh player arriving later. This was a close game from start to finish and both teams cancelled each other out for the majority of the game. It was a day that the away team drew a blank in terms of goals and by the end of the match they had used more fuel than the journey by car. But with their heads alway held high, they will learn from each game as they always have done. Aoife collected the Player of the Match trophy for all her hard work throughout, and was overjoyed shortly after as she was also rewarded with a McDonalds on the way home. Win win!!

Ickenham was the destination for the U11 Flame, as they looked to build on their impressive football and performance last week. It was the Ickenham Youth U11 Falcons who were looking to clip the wings of our young Phoenix stars. Betty captained the team for the day and in typically determined fashion, she led the way with three goals in the match. She wasn't the only one to grab a hat-trick though, as both Sophia and Sadie also netted three times. Player of the Match Edith also scored a brace for the away team, leaving Coach Chris feeling quite grateful that receiving a match ball isn't a 'thing' in grassroots football..............

The U13 'Fire' had no league fixture on Saturday and instead of the prospect of facing a fortnight without a game due to team changes in Division Four, they arranged a midday Home fixture against St Albans U14 Lightning from Division Five in the higher age group. A brilliant opportunity to play another new team and an opportunity to dust of the disappointment from last week. This was all about working hard, tweaking certain aspects of the previous performance, getting more game time and not worrying about the result. The players certainly went about that task and took the lead with a great strike from Daisy. This was then followed up with a shot from distance from Mills, who then also  grabbed her second with a neat left foot finish. St Albans got themselves back into the game in the second half, but our U13's continued to play excellent football, defend brilliantly and create great chances that were kept out well by the Lightning keeper. A deserved 3-1 victory for LGDA and smiles all round for the players. Congratulations to Amelie for being voted as Player of the Match as well. Coming out on top, when there were many contenders for the award this weekend!

Our U14 'Fire' team hosted Hemel Aces U14 Jaguars Girls in what was going to be a tough competitive fixture. It certainly proved to be that way and was the LGDA player's biggest test in the league so far. In fact, the toughest 11v11 game they have faced including the friendly matches played at the end of last season and this pre-season. The home team knew they had a battle on their hands but eventually came away victorious to secure three wins from three games. Maximum points and another morale boost to the squad. With four different scorers in the game as well, Player of the Match Gracie was on target and joined by Megan (pen), a brilliant solo effort for Livs, and rounded off with a goal from recent signing Millie on her home debut.

A fantastic weekend of football for all the LGDA teams and plenty for the coaches to be proud of their players.

Matchday Week 2 - 14/09/24

Four teams at home on a Saturday morning and just the one away fixture. But there were "goals a plenty" and a mixed bag of results. With some amazing stats added into the ingredients of an exciting and enjoyable day of football in the HGFPL.

Our U10 'Fire' youngsters entertained Harpenden Colts at Sun Sports, as one of three LGDA youth teams playing on the same pitch in quick succession. This was a thoroughly entertaining and exciting match for the players, parents and coaches. With so much passion and committment and end-to-end football. With Amelia captaining the team for the day, she scored two goals for her side and Ella also hit the net in between Amelia's strikes. The excitement was almost too much to bear for some, and the tension was high when young Amelia converted her second from the penalty spot in the dying seconds. A great game of football by both teams. The Player of the Match award was given to the whole team, as they only had the 7 players for the fixture and each and every one of them worked so hard. Not to mention Ruby in goal, who performed heroics at times. Happy players, happy parents and happy coaches. The perfect recipe for the start of the weekend!

The U11 'Fire' squad had the early kick off for the morning, facing Bedwell Rangers Youth. Coaches Martin & Joe had worked hard with the players on finishing and taking their many chances during the week in training and it certainly paid off. Great team play, flowing football and great communication provided a high scoring game in which both 'Captain' Goergia & Louiza  scored twice. However, they were out-done on the day by Simi, who came off the bench to score four goals and earn herself the Player of the Match award in the process. Great to see the continued development of the squad and all of them enjoying their football.

Our U11 Flame's were the final team to play at home in our child friendly section, and they also enjoyed a thrilling match against Harvesters U11 Girls South. Enjoying a fixture in the sunshine and with four of the players playing 'up' an age, they played some excellent football under the guidance of Coach Chris. The girls never stopped playing from the start to the finish and despite a slow start as they adjust to 7v7 football and get used to the new squad, they continued to play their passing game. Sophia scoring the first for the 'Flame' and then Player of the Match Betty finished a lovely solo goal with a celebration to match. She was so close to adding to that with an identical run and shot which produced the save of the game from the Harvesters keeper. With Coaches Chris and Amy guiding the players, they are going to get better and better throughout the season.

The U13 'Fire' welcomed St Albans U13 Wildcats to Sun Sports for their League fixture, and scored possibly the fastest goal for LGDA in competitive football. Within 14 seconds of the game starting, four passes created a chance for Laila to burst forwards and she made no mistake in putting the home team ahead. After some great opportunities to extend that lead were not taken, LGDA did finally get a second, with Mills finishing a chance and scoring her thrid goal in two games. It was the perfect start for the home team but it ignited a spark in St Albans. The visiting team pulled one back before half time and then took control in the second half, scoring three more goals and fully deserving the three points. It was a disappointing 2-4 defeat for the home team, especially having led 2-0 and looking comfortable. But they paid the price for the missed chances and allowing St Albans to recover and break through to score. Always a learning process and the LGDA players will pick themselves up and go again next time. Another all-action display from 'captain' Mills, earned her the Player of the Match award, but I'm she'd agree that she'd rather receive that with three points for her team as well.

Our U14 'Fire' team headed off to Stevenage to face the U14 Starlets in their League Div 4 clash. Full of confidence after their opening home league win, they took a strong squad away for the fixture, including new signing 'Millie'.

The parents were excited to see this developing young team go out and play again, and they certainly did not disappoint. Amelia led the way for the U14's with four goals during the game. As another new signing for the season, she's added more strength and ability to the squad and has settled in perfectly. Roma then came off the bench to hit her first hat-trick for the team, and this was followed by a brace from Leira and individual goals for Gracie and Arabella.

But the celebrations, cheers and congratulations were saved for young Olivia. In only her second full season, playing 'up' an age group and having worked so hard since joining the club, she finally and deservedly scored her first goal for the team and the celebrations with her team mates showed just how great the team spirit is within this great bunch of young ladies. It was absolutely right that 'Livs' should be able to celebrate the moment and her achivement with the Player of the Match award.

Hopefully the first of many more goals to come for that young lady. It's little successes such as that, that make coaching and developing young female players so rewarding and special.

Matchday Week 1 - 07/09/24

It was the opening weekend of the HGFPL fixtures on Saturday and all five LGDA teams were in action, with all the players, coaches and parents  full of excitement to begin the season.

Four of the teams were away from home on the opening day, with only the U14's enjoying a perfect surface at Sun Sports. With three of our youth teams playing in the HGFPL Child Friendly Divisions, those results cannot be disclosed.

Under the guidance of Coaches Kayleigh & Jess, the U10 'Fire' team, played a local match against newcomers Croxley Green Youth Opal. An exciting day for both sets of players. An energetic display produced a hatful of goals for the away team . Amelia captained the team and led the way with four goals to earn herself the player of the match accolade. There were also strikes for Layah, Ella and Eden

The U11 'Fire' team were also staying local, as they faced Evergreen Youth Griffin. It was a close encounter between two well matched teams. With LGDA creating plenty of chances throughout the game, it was Simi who scored the side's only goal. Louiza's energtic and hard working display earned her player of the match award for the first time this season.

It was a debut for a completely new team, as the U11 'Flame' squad travelled to Real Bedford. Despite missing three players and only being able to field six for the fixture, the club can still boast the development of it's players, with four of the six players, playing 'up' an age group. WIth Sadie being the most experienced of the young group in the squad, she set a fine example of never giving up and working hard with her team mates. With a League debut for Millie as well, there was certainly a lot for Coach Chris to be proud of. With Sadie picking up the player of the match award, there will be a lot of success for this promising team and the future is definitely looking good.

The U13 'Fire' squad travelled to Borehamwood to face London City Strikers Pearls. Despite showing good progress in recent pre-season friendlies, it was a sluggish start for the away team on a very difficult pitch. Losing Daisy so early in the game due to injury also forced a shuffle in the line-up. Adjusting to the events and conditions, the girls found themselves 1-0 down at half time. Taking inspiration from the fact they had created plenty of chances in the first half and knowing that having been in these situations in other games, we know that we had the resilience to get back into the game.

The second half was played at a fast pace and with LGDA starting to get on top and press higher, the equaliser finally came via a penalty for handball. With a slight delay in the kick being taken due to unfortunate circumstances, Mills kept her composure and tucked the ball away.

After more sustained pressure the away team took a deserved lead and Mills doubled her tally with a neat finish after Taya had put her through on goal. It wasn't plain sailing though, and Millie had to be called into action to make some important saves, and with player of the match Autumn making some last gasp recovery runs and tackles, the away team went home with the three points and delights on the faces of all concerned.

Our U14 'Fire' team began the season at home and finally starting their 11v11 journey. They had prepared well for the new format with friendlies at the end of the season and played host to Ickenham Youth Raptors.

With new signing Amelia making her league debut for the club after signing from Denham in pre-season and Roma coming back from injury, the girls were looking forward to the match despite still missing some vital squad members.

Leira set the tone for the home team, putting them 1-0 up within the opening ten minutes. After Ickenham had equalised, Roma came off the bench to score a brilliant goal and give the home team the advantage again just after the half hour mark. It remained 2-1 to LGDA at half-time and the girls had settled down nicely.

It was then time for a succession of goals as Leira added a second to her tally and joined on the scoresheet by Issy. But it was Ava H who stole the show with a player of the match display that saw her score her first ever goal for the club and then going one better and scoring again.

WIth the home side finishing the game as 6-1 winners, the players are not getting carried away but they are really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Bring on next week for all our teams!!
